Everything you need to know 🙂

Planning a Missouri Courthouse Wedding in St. Louis can be a beautifully intimate and stress-free way to celebrate your love. As a wedding photographer based in St. Louis, I’ve had the pleasure of capturing many courthouse ceremonies, and I’m here to help guide you through the process. Whether you’re eloping or just want a simpler way to say “I do,” here’s everything you need to know to plan your Missouri courthouse wedding. Courthouse weddings might sometimes sound less exciting, but trust me—you can make it incredibly fun and memorable! Plan your day with exciting activities to enjoy every moment.

Step 1: Understand the Basics of a Missouri Courthouse Wedding

The St. Louis County courthouse offers a convenient and straightforward way to get married. Here are the essentials:

Marriage License: You’ll need a marriage license before your ceremony. Apply for one at the St. Louis County Courthouse. The application fee is only $48! Visit the St. Louis County Courts website for more information on this.

Ceremony Time: Weddings at the courthouse are performed every Wednesday. Head to the 3rd floor of the St. Louis County Courthouse at 105 South Central Ave, in Clayton. Arrive early—be there by 12 PM to secure your spot, as it’s first-come, first-served. You will be provided a number indicating your place in line. The higher your number, the longer the wait, so come prepared. Pro tip: The waiting rooms can get warm, so consider bringing a portable fan if you’re prone to get hot 🙂

Bring Your Witnesses: While having witnesses is optional, bringing family or friends can make the day even more special. If it’s just the two of you, that’s perfectly fine, too.

Step 2: Choose Your Attire

One of the perks of a Missouri courthouse wedding is the freedom to dress however you want. Brides often opt for anything from a casual dress to a full bridal gown, while grooms may choose a suit or a casual look. Whatever you wear, make sure it reflects your personal style and makes you feel confident.

Step 3: Pick a photographer

Hiring a professional photographer is the best way to preserve the memories of your special day. As someone who specializes in intimate and candid moments, I’ve seen firsthand how unique and charming courthouse weddings can be. Here are a few photography tips for your Missouri courthouse wedding:

Scout the Location: The St. Louis County Courthouse and its surroundings offer stunning architectural backdrops. Take advantage of the nearby parks or landmarks for beautiful photos.

Plan Post-Ceremony Photos: After the ceremony, consider visiting some of St. Louis’s most iconic locations for additional portraits. Forest Park, the Gateway Arch, St. Louis Union Station, The Last Hotel STL, and Tower Grove Park are just a few of the picturesque options. You could also return to your hotel for fun and relaxed photos or even visit a local bakery to pick out a celebratory cake. Remember, this is your day—make it your own!
